Malicious incidents of delinquencies on Gatespark Private illustrates the importance of communication between neighbours to help us be aware of such incidents and to raise our attention to minimize their occurrence. This signifies the importance of the Ottawa Police Services Neighbourhood Watch Program. If you are interested in the program, you are invited to submit a Neighbourhood Watch program form (see link below) to 110 Gatespark Private.
As examples of some incidents:
Last year, an incident in our street at about 2AM on a weekday morning wakened resident by sounds of loud teenage boy voices, laughing, yelling etc on Goldridge Drive. Their activities resulted in many cars, garages and signs spray painted in Gatespark Private as well as Goldridge and Stikine.
Another evening last year, a resident with personal motion sensor security system camera caught a group of youths moving through Gatespark checking cars to see if they were open. Some residents did report missing items the day after. They were in dark hoodies; some with face masks and they had bulky backpacks. One resident had turned on their front door light and the youths appeared to bolt.
Since these activities occur primarily at night, Gatespark Private residents should ensure their vehicles are locked and garage doors are closed to discourage these delinquent activities.
Any other residents who have security camera systems are asked if they caught any footage of such actions so that the authorities have more information for their investigation.
This is a good example of a proactive action on behalf of one of our residents who is seriously concerned about the safety of our neighbourhood. It is an action which is promoted by the Ottawa Neighbourhood Watch program for which the Board is still looking for more residents to submit their application of interest forms. We are not able to start this full program officially until we get at least 50% of our resident participating. We remain well below that percentage.
Information and application form links for the Neighbourhood Watch Program can be found underneath.
